White chocolate cranberry cookies bring together two contrasting flavors that make every bite interesting: creamy sweetness from white chocolate and a bright, slightly tart taste from dried cranberries. These cookies are easy enough for everyday baking but special enough for holiday gatherings, cookie exchanges, and homemade gifts. Their soft texture, chewy center, and colorful appearance make them a reliable favorite when you want a treat that feels a little more distinctive than a classic chocolate chip cookie.

White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies for Any Occasion The appeal of these cookies comes from the balance between rich and fruity flavors. White chocolate adds a smooth, buttery sweetness, while dried cranberries provide a pleasantly tangy contrast. For extra texture, chopped pecans or walnuts can be folded into the dough, although the cookies are equally enjoyable without nuts. A small amount of vanilla and a pinch of salt can also sharpen the overall flavor without overpowering the main ingredients. For the best results, avoid overbaking the cookies. Taking them from the oven when the edges are lightly golden and the centers still look slightly soft helps preserve a chewy texture as they cool. Chilling the dough before baking can also help the cookies hold their shape and develop a richer flavor. These simple details can make a noticeable difference in the finished batch.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. In a saucepan combine the pears, cranberries, maple syrup, orange juice, orange peel, cinnamon and nutmeg, bring to a boil and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 3 minutes, or until cranberries have popped. Stir in cornstarch mixture and simmer for 1 minute, or until thickened. Let cool. Transfer mixture to a buttered baking dish. Make the dough: Into a bowl sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the butter and the shortening and blend the mixture until it resembles coarse meal. Stir in the cream and form the dough into a ball. On a floured surface roll the dough into a round large enough to fit the dish, arrange it over the filling and crimp the edge decoratively. Brush the dough with the egg wash, cut steam vents in the center, and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
